Midsummer yoga and horseriding

Tour description

On this tour, we take you around Lake Thingvallavatn, Iceland´s biggest lake and an important part of the Thingvellir National Park. Ride through geothermal areas, moss-covered lava fields and on the shores of the lake.
This tour is operated by Hreinn Þ.
This tour will be accompanied by morning Kundalini Yoga sessions by Annette Fahrtmann and will end with an extra day for a hike or to relax in the morning and a Sweat-Lodge in the afternoon/evening.

About the yoga sessions:
Kundalini Yoga
The morning Kundalini Yoga is equally suitable for beginners and advanced practitioners.
Kundalini yoga is also called the yoga of consciousness.
It strengthens and balances your body systems, brings your own energies into a better flow and has a holistic effect on body, mind and soul.

Pick-up starts at 17:30 Bus transfer to Torfastaðir for dinner and tour meeting.

Morning Yoga and breakfast
After refreshments and lunch-pack making, we meet the horses and start the ride towards the great Lake of Þingvallavatn. We ascend up to an old secluded sheep paddock on the hills and then we ride towards farm Villingavatn, where we change horses. From here we ride with views to the mountains and volcanoes, along the banks of the lake to Nesjavellir farm, where we see the big steam from a power plant in the bottom of the valley, towered by the ancient volcano Mt. Hengill. Bus back to Torfastaðir Guesthouse. 22 km. 4-5 hours.

Morning Yoga and breakfast.
From Nesjavellir we ride the Jórukleif pass up to the heathland that provides us with soft mud paths, excellent for our tölting horses.
We pass farm Heiðabær on our way to Kárastaðir farm, where we leave the horses and return to the guesthouse by bus. 20 km. 4-5 hours

Morning Yoga and breakfast
We will continue our ride towards Þingvellir, where the ancient Icelandic parliament Alþingi was founded in 930 AC. From Þingvellir we’ll ride beautiful paths through the wood clad lava field with mountain hut Kringlumýri as our destination. Now heading east with the great lake and the majestic Hengill volcano to our right. On our left we have o an even greater volcano, Skjaldbreiður, which created the lava field we are actually riding, so many years ago. Bus back to Torfastaðir Guesthouse.
22 km. 4-5 hours

Morning Yoga and breakfast.
Today we ride in the slopes of Lyngdalsheiði, a cone-shaped hill created by ancient volcano Þrasaborgir, descending to lake Þingvallavatn. We cross the river Sogið on a dam, finding our way towards Mt. Hengill again. We’ll make a pit stop at the same paddock we visited the first day, and finally we’ll end the tour at Torfastaðir. 27 km. 5-6 hours

The morning leaves time to relax or to go for a hike. In the afternoon we start the famous sweat lodge. This ceremony includes meditation, the 4 rounds in the sweat and a communal nutritious and vegan feast afterward. It takes place in the beautiful surroundings of the farm.
