Apart from Á Sprengisandi, another song we often sing during horseriding tours (and other (horse-related) gatherings in Iceland) is “Ég er kominn heim” – This title meaning “I’ve come home” means a lot to many of our returning guests, who see Saltvík as a home away from home.
Here’s the lyrics and translation!
Er völlur grær og vetur flýr
Fields are growing and winter flees
Og vermir sólin grund
And the sun warms the ground
Kem ég heim og hitti þig
I come home and meet you
Verð hjá þér alla stund
Will be with you every moment
Við byggjum saman bæ í sveit
We build a farm in the countryside together
Sem brosir móti sól
Which smiles into the sun
Ljúfu lífi landið Vítt
The land will give us sweet lifes
Mun ljá og veita skjól
Will provide and give shelter
Sól slær silfri á voga
Sun strikes silver on the bays
Sjáið jökulinn loga
See the glacier glisten
Allt er bjart fyrir okkur tveim
everything is bright for the two of us
Því ég er kominn heim
because I am back home
Að ferðalokum finn ég þig
at the end of the journey I’ll find you
Sem mér fagnar höndum tveim
who is welcoming me with both arms
Ég er kominn heim
I am back home
Já, ég er kominn heim
Yes, I am back home
Sól slær silfri á voga
Sun strikes silver on the bays
Sjáið jökulinn loga
See the glacier glisten
Allt er bjart fyrir okkur tveim
everything is bright for the two of us
Því ég er kominn heim
because I am back home
Að ferðalokum finn ég þig
at the end of the journey I’ll find you
Sem mér fagnar höndum tveim
who is welcoming me with both arms
Ég er kominn heim
I am back home
Já, ég er kominn heim
Yes, I am back home
