Arnarvatnsheiði: Rivers, lakes and Glaciers of the north!
We introduce now a brand new tour in the highlands of Northwest Iceland! The magical Arnarvatnsheiði area with its endless lakes and magnificent views towards the huge glaciers Langjökull and Eiríksjökull!
This is a tour combining nice rides through the green valleys of Northwest Iceland and highland trails in the western wilderness of Arnarvatnsheiði. We spend 2 nights in a cozy mountain hut at lake Arnarvatn with the true spirit of the highlands all around and 3 nights at the community center at Laugarbakki village in double or triple rooms with made up beds and hot pool aside.
Included is transport back and forth from BSÍ bus station in Reykjavík before and after the tour, accommodation, food, sleeping bags for the mountain hut, helmets and rain gear.

Itinerary
Meeting point at BSÍ Bus station in Reykjavík at 9:00 in the morning
We drive to our base at farm Reynhólar in northwest Iceland. (2,5 hour drive) After a short introduction to guides and horses we take good time in matching every rider and horse and then head on along soft riverbanks of Miðfjarðará and in to Valley Vesturárdalur where we leave our horses and drive to Ásbyrgi guesthouse for overnight stay. Hot pool aside for relaxing after a great day!
We ride along the valley and up to higher grounds of the heathlands and down the next valley Núpsdalur … We leave our horses at the farm Neðri Núpur and drive back with a bus to Laugarbakki for the night. Hot pool aside for relaxing after the nice day in the valleys.
Now we head to the highlands of Arnarvatnsheiði with the glaciers Langjökull and Eiríksjökull in sight all day! Next 2 nights at a cosy mountain hut at Arnarvatn (sleeping bags)
We spend this day in the wilderness and ride old historical trails in the area with the taste of the real Icelandic highlands all day!
Accomodation at Laugarbakki.
We head back down to the valleys after enjoying the highlands!
We ride along the riverbanks of Austurá and Miðfjarðará all day on great trails along the rivers.
In the evening farewell party at Laugarbakki after a well deserved dip in the hot pool!
Drive back to Reykjavík after breakfast at Laugarbakki. Arrival at BSÍ bus station around 13:00
