Autumn Colours - Miðfjarðarrétt
4 days riding tour in northwest part of Iceland.
This tour leads through valleys and hillsides of Miðfjörður. We follow riverbanks and ride up to the hillsides where we meet up with farmers bringing horses and sheeps down from the mountains.
In Iceland horses and sheep wander around free in the highlands all summer and are then gathered in september before winter arrives in the mountains and taken to roundup places where the farmers help each other sorAng out the herds.

Itinerary
Meeting place at BSI Busstastation in Reykjavík.
We drive to our farm Reynhólar (approx 3 hours drive). There we saddle up and ride along river Miððfjarðará on soft riverbanks all day to farm Litli Hvammur where we leave our horses behind and drive to our guesthouse for the night.
We saddle up in the morning and ride up to Arnarvatnsheiði to meet up with the farmers. They have already spent the days before riding around in the highlands collecting horses and sheep and will be waiting for us to join them driving the big herds the last part to the roundpen where the sorting will take place the coming days (around 400 horses and 2000 sheep).
This day the farmers roundup the sheep. We start spending some Ame watching the sheep sorting and then saddle up for a nice day in the valley. We follow riverbanks of Miðfjarðará again back to Reynhólar.
Early morning the farmers start sorting the horses. Afer all horses are sorted out we‘ll join theneighbour farmer of Reynhólar and help him taking his horses home.
After breakfast we‘ll drive back to Reykjavík with our bus. Estimated arrival time early afternoon.
