Itinerary

We start part 2 with a nice and easy ride in the countryside of Þistilfjörður. The day ends at the farm Hallgilsstaðir and we drive back to our base at Svalbarð community centre.

We ride from Hallgilsstaðir farm in to the peninsula of Langanes, pass by Þórshöfn village and out to the peninsula with views out to the arctic sea. We leave the horses at farm Hlíð and drive back to Svalbarð community centre for the night.

We start the day by visiting Fontur, a huge cliff marking the outskirts of north east Iceland!

Then we start riding back from the peninsula towards the farmlands of Þistilfjörður and end the day at Gunnarsstaðir farm. Overnight at Svalbarð Community centre.

Now we start riding up to the wilderness along river Hafralónsá through wild landscape of the northern highlands. Our destination is a mountain hut called Hvammsheiðarkofi in the middle of nowhere! Accommodation rather primitive but we sure will enjoy the feeling of the wilderness this night!

We start the day early as this is our longest day of the journey and partly through pretty unknown territories! Hopefully we get good weather as we are pretty high up in the highlands this day riding through barren areas and rocky hillsides. We end the day at Grímsstaðir farm, a well known destination on our tours in the northern highlands

Another long day in the saddle awaits when we head up from Grímsstaðir farm, we cross river Jökulsá on a bridge and head to Pétursborg roundup pen where we have lunch and change horses. Then onwards to lake Mývatn with another stop at Hverarönd geothermal area. Day ends at Reykjahlíð village near Lake Mývatn where we leave the horses and drive home to Saltvík where we spend the 2 last nights.

We ride from lake Mývatn in the morning and across the desert of Hólasandur down to the beautiful valley of Laxá. We follow Laxá river and cross the higher grounds of Hvítafell, then down to Reykjadalur where we end our journey at farm Akrar. Overnight and farewell dinner at Saltvík
