Short drive through the lush green farming area of South Iceland to Bjarkarland, home to our lovely host. Before lunch there will be a welcome meeting with a thorough introduction into the tour details and the Icelandic tack and special gaits of the Icelandic Horse. After a good lunch we drive to our horses at Fell and start our ride alongside the Markarfljót River. We ascend into the mountains to Einhyrningur Mountain Cabin where we spend the night. Enjoy the great view of Eyjafjallajökull Glacier and Thorsmörk Nature Park. (Riding distance ca. 25 km)

Accommodation: Einhyrningur mountain hut. Sleeping bag accommodation in rustic mountain hut.

This day takes us across mighty Markarfljót River (on a bridge). We ride through the scenic Emstrur area to Mosar. The sensitive grazing area in the highlands pleases our horses and we spend some time there before we continue to the new and cozy Hungurfit cabin. A warm shower is available there. Today we enjoy great views of Mýrdalsjökull Glacier where the notorious Katla crater is hidden. (30 km)

Accommodation: Hungurfit mountain cabin. Sleepingbag accommodation in rustic mountain hut.

Enjoy the black lava fields and the great riding tracks allowing for a fast tölt as the horses start to smell their home! It is a mystical scenery which eludes of elves, trolls and outlaw – yet again so different from the rhyolite mountains and barren moonlike nature of the previous days. Overnight at cozy mountain hut Foss underneath the slopes of beautiful sharp ridged mountain Þríhyrningur.

Accommodation: Foss farm. Sleeping bag accommodation in 4-8 bedded rooms

Today will be another great riding day and prepare to ride fast today as we come down from the mountains into the lowlands of Landeyjar area. We have a wonderfull views of the huge glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Tindfjallajökull. Fantastic riding trails as we pass one of the oldest „forest“ in Iceland, Tumastaðaskógur in Fljóthslíð.
