Pick-up in Reykjavík is at 18:00 Bus transfer to Torfastaðir Guesthouse, where we settle in. Evening drive to Þingvellir after dinner.

Accommodation: Einhyrningur mountain hut. Sleeping bag accommodation in rustic mountain hut.

We’ll start riding up to a sheep paddock, getting a view over Lake Þingvallavatn and then cross river Sogið on a dam. We ride further into the heathland to sheperds’ cabin Kringlumýri. For there we continue our trip to Lyngdalsheiði, created by the volcano Þrasaborgir, with extraordinary views to the mountains at the edge of the highlands. When ascending the heath we can take in the beautiful Icelandic countryside, with lakes, steam, woods, mountains and farming fields and houses. Our destination is nice and cozy Farm Guesthouse Sel. We accommodate in rooms and cottages with made beds. Showers. 45 km. 6-7 hours.

We ride through farmlands and heathlands by Creek Andalækur, which we zig-zag over. We change horses at Austurhlíð farm and head on to the mountains and the highlands, towards the famous geyser ‘Strokkur’ that we can see erupting from the back of our horses. From there we ride to the farm guesthouse in Myrkholt. We go on a short drive to see the impressive waterfall Gullfoss, another cornerstone of the Golden Circle. Showers. 35 km. 5-6 hours.

Today we ride the countryside until we reach the magnificent Brúarárhlöð canyon, where we certainly get the chance to use our cameras. From there we start ascending up to the highlands. When we have reached the plateau we send the herd to Helgaskáli cabin, but turn our mounts to investigate another big canyon Laxárgljúfur, for a photostop. Back at Helgaskáli we enjoy our dinner in the sheperds’ cabin. No showers. 33 km. 5-6 hours.

Today you ride down from the highland again, with great views over to the volcano Hekla. The lava landscape is rugged and vast and you wonder how it looked when it was in the making ages ago. We will stop to see the impressive waterfall Háifoss on the way down to Hólaskógur cabin where we make a pit stop. Onwards we go crossing mighty Þjórsá river, riding through even more lava fields to finally reach Áfangagil cabin. Showers. 33 km. 5-6 hours.

We ride towards Mt. Búrfell, which stands on the opposite bank of Þjórsá river, Hekla has an eye on us to our left. We might get a glimpse of Þjófafoss waterfall on our way to deserted farm Skarfanes, where we change horses. Mt. Skarðsfjall will get closer and closer by every step we take towards south, and finally we’ll pass it and reach Minni-Vellir farm where the tour comes to an end. 45 km. 6-7 hours Bus will take us back to Reykjavík in the evening.
