Riding & knitting festival

We now offer a special edition of our popular Saltvík Comfort tour. We will spend our days riding and knitting, and we’ll end the tour with a day at the annual knitting festival in Blönduós.
We have noticed that among our guests the typical Icelandic wool sweaters are almost as popular as the Icelandic horses themselves. Many just like to buy one, but wearing a sweater custom made for you, or custom made by yourself is of course even better! Our good friend Jutta, who has been knitting already so many sweaters for the Saltvík “family” will be joining this tour and is ready to help everyone with their questions about knitting an Icelandic sweater.
The first 3 days of this tour we’ll be riding the trails around Saltvík farm along the coastline of the Arctic Ocean, just like we do during our regular Saltvík Comfort tours. Depending on the weather and the condition of the trails, we might ride 1 day ride with a packed lunch, and we’ll probably also take a sightseeing trip by our private car/bus to for example the waterfall Goðafoss. When we’re not riding, we will gather in the cozy common area of the old farmhouse to (learn to) knit your own Icelandic sweater (or a scarf or blanket, or whatever you’d like to knit).
On Saturday morning we will drive to Blönduós where the annual knitting festival will take place that weekend. There is the possibility to meet other knit enthusiasts, exchange ideas, shop for Icelandic wool and possibly also attend some interesting workshops. At the moment we were setting up this tour, the program for the festival was not available yet, but we will inform all participants as soon as possible with information about the possible workshops to attend. Possibly the workshops are at an extra fee.
Note that you’d have to buy/bring your own wool, needles, pattern. When you book this tour we will get you in contact with Jutta to discuss which equipment you should bring and where you can buy it. Needles and patterns are probably best bought at home, but we can also go with the whole group to buy wool here in Húsavík on the first day of the tour.
As knitting is an important part of this tour, we can have a few seats available for non-riding guests as well. So if you have a friend who does not want to ride, but would like to enjoy Iceland and join the knitting; please contact us for availability and pricing.
We will visit the geothermal bath “Geosea” in Húsavík, and optional at extra cost could be a whale watching trip from Húsavík harbor. Also, we will see if it is possible to pay a visit to a sheep farm here in Iceland, for those who’d like to see the producers of our beloved sweater material in real life 😉
Accommodation is in our old farmhouse in double/triple rooms with hot tubs aside waiting for us after the riding days.
Ridingdays are Wed-Thurs-Fri. Saturday morning we will drive to Blönduós for the festival and at the end of the afternoon / in the evening (depending on the scheduled program of the festival), we will drive on to Reykjavík. Drop off will be at BSI bus station Saturday evening. Of course, it could be possible for those who would like to attend more of the festival to say goodbye to the group on Saturday afternoon/evening and book their own accommodation in Blönduós for Saturday (and Sunday). There is a public bus driving from Blönduós to Reykjavík each day for those of the group who would want to stay longer in Blönduós.
