Flateyjardalur The hidden Valley

The first part of the Dream tour takes us to the abandoned magical valley Flateyjardalur.
The Valley with its rich vegetation and high snowy mountains on both sides is a true paradise for nature lovers. We‘ll have great riding trails and amazing scenery when riding up and down the valley following different paths. We ride all the way to the arctic ocean north of Iceland where we stay 2 nights in a well-equipped and cosy mountain hut near the coast.

Book now

We ride along Hvammsheiði on the tölting highway along soft heath trails towards Aðaldalur valley. We cross river Laxá at a 100m wide passing and the ride ends at Aðalból farm at the riverbanks of Laxá.
Overnight at Saltvík farm.

Now we start our journey into the magical valley Flateyjardalur. We cross a mountain passing up to 600m height. Steep trails up and down to the valley make the day challenging and we have to hike on foot the steepest parts so only experienced and physically fit riders are advised to make this part their choice!
We‘ll come down to the valley and ride between the high mountains at both sides until we come to Heiðarhús cabin where we stay over night. The cabin is small so a good outdoor party is an excellent idea before going to bed after this challenging but great day 

After breakfast at Heiðarhús we ride down the valley to the shores of the Atlantic ocean. Beutiful ride with a river running down the valley aside our trails all the way to the ocean. We stay the next 2 nights at Hof. This new cabin with good facilities (but no shower!) is new and divided in two spacious rooms. A dip in the ocean is a challenge for the evening!

Today we take a relaxed day without the herd riding in the valley. The valley is known for its history through the centuries and was before highly populated but now abandoned and stories of the past will be told at our breaks during the day!

Today we head up the valley mostly riding different trails than on our way down. We ride all the way up to Þverá farm at the opening of the valley and leave the horses there.
Overnight at Saltvík farm with the well deserved hot tubs aside!

The last day we ride from Þverá through Fnjóskadalur valley and Ljósavatnsskarð towards farm Landamót where we leave the horses and drive back to Saltvík farm.

After breakfast we drive to Husavík airport for the flight back south.
